The Kansas Orff Chapter is a professional organization of currently 96 Kansas music educators and is a local chapter of the American Orff-Schulwerk Association. Orff-Schulwerk is a creative approach to teaching and learning music through speaking, singing, playing instruments and moving. Created by composers Carl Orff and Gunild Keetman, the Schulwerk is an exciting way to teach and learn music. Members in the organization receive discounted workshop registrations to all of the events. KOC workshops are open to anyone interested in learning about the Orff-Schulwerk model. KOC is proud to offer three workshops each year to allow teachers to expand and practice their knowledge. Workshops for 2019-2020 include two six-hour sessions on Saturday which are held in January and October plus an Orff’n’Running two-day workshop in July held in Kansas City. Workshops are only a part of the complete Orff-Schulwerk. Formal training in the methods is offered each summer at Baker University on a rotation basis with Levels I, II, III and Master Class. The Kansas Orff Chapter also offers a scholarship to the Level courses plus a scholarship to any a member who is a first time attendee to the American Orff-Schulwerk Association National Convention.
