Friends University to present fall ballet Oct. 19-21 with Límon Institute’s Kathryn Alter

FFriendsFriends University will present the Fall Ballet, an evening of tradition and transformation. The performance will take place Friday, Oct. 19, and Saturday, Oct. 20, at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, Oct. 21, at 2 p.m. in Sebits Auditorium in the Riney Fine Arts Center.

“You will be a witness of dance works that depart from tradition, but that have sprung from a genuine expression of current personal relevance,” said Andrea Vazquez-Aguirre director of ballet and visiting lecturer of dance.

Guest choreographer Kathryn Alter created a collaborative piece inspired by the dancers. She is a longtime member of the Límon Dance Company in New York and is now steward of the tradition of the technique and repertoire.

The performance will also include a suite from Tchaikovsky’s The Sleeping Beauty, and a solo piece from senior Shelby Fox.

This will be Andrea Vazquez-Aguirre’s first performance at the university.

Ticket prices for the Fall Ballet are $16 for adults and $13 for students and seniors (60-plus).
