Holly Taylor, All-State Elementary Choir Chair
I am excited about the 2nd year for the All-State Elementary Choir. Thank you for auditioning your grade 3 through 5 elementary students last Fall for this very first choir! It was one we will never forget!
This year I am pleased to announce that Elizabeth Núñez from New York City will be our director. She and her husband, Francisco J. Núñez are the artistic directors of the superb program “Young People’s Chorus of New York City.” This program utilizes the Kodály music curriculum incorporating basic vocal techniques, sight singing and reading, written music theory, and performance skills. It is a graded choir program beginning at age 7 through 18. Check out their website at: ypc.org.
I heard one of their choirs at a National Kodály conference and was in awe of their vocal tone and literature. Please check out all the details on the KMEA website at ksmea.org/elemchoir. Her bio is also listed online. The literature has been selected and is available at Senseney Music in Wichita. The literature is stunning and accessible for your students. The listening tracks for each piece are also on line for your instruction purposes and can be loaded on a CD for your students. I am looking forward to working with all of you this February 23 at KMEA! BEST to your students as they audition for this 160 voice choir.
This choir will continue to be part of the KMEA All-State groups and my assistant, Jill Wiechman, will be taking over as the chair on March 1st. She already has a conductor lined up for 2018! She has been a tremendous help this past year and will continue to grow the program in the future.
Please do not hesitate to forward any questions to my e-mail at email@example.com. Help us spread the word to all of the elementary music teachers in our state. All time lines and money matters are located on the website with deadlines. ALL AUDITIONS MUST BE RECEIVED ONLINE BY: NOVEMBER 4- NO EXCEPTIONS. The roster will be posted December 12th online.
Thank you for helping make this choir an important part of KMEA and for your singers.
See you in February!
